  • Shut down your computer, monitor, and speakers
when you leave for the day.
  • Saves energy and extends the life of your
equipment. Automated shutdown software is in
place but is intended as a backup to each user
shutting down at the end of the day.
  • Monitors must be manually shut off and can safely
    be turned off each night.
  • Students should turn off other classroom
computers and monitors when they are finished
with them. As a back-up, assign one individual
or the last class to sweep the classroom to make
    sure everything is off.
  • In computer labs assign one individual or the
last class to turn off computers and monitors at
    the end of the day.
  • Use partial lighting when appropriate (Many
    classrooms and offices
  • have multiple light switches that will allow
    for reduced lighting levels).
  • Before after class hours when rooms often are
    occupied with just one person.
  • During regular classroom hours when natural light
is available and provides ample light levels for
    the learning environment.
  • Shut off all electric appliances when they are
    not needed.
  • Projectors, Document cameras, and TVs should be
turned off throughout the day, when not in use.
  • Consolidate personal appliances where possible.
  • Each night turn off other hardware amplifiers,
    DVRs, televisions etc.
  • Help monitor exterior doors and window blinds.
  • Ensure that exterior doors are open for minimal
    lengths of time.
  • Significant amounts of warm air is lost when
doors are left propped open for just a short
    period of time.
