1
Faith in GodHebrews 111-12
  • by
  • Rev. Ronald O. McCants, Teacher

2
1. What is hoped for in faith?
  • 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen.
  • NIV Now faith is confidence in what we hope for
and assurance about what we do not see.

3
Faith
  • Even in ordinary affairs of life, and in science
too, men act, and must act, to a great extent on
faith it is essential for success, and certainly
    for all great achievements.
  • Faith always has been the mark of God's servants,
from the beginning of the world.

4
  • Faith is taking the first step even when you
don't see the whole staircase. Martin Luther
    King, Jr.

5
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.
Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
Helen Keller

  • 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
  • LIVING TRANSLATION Through their faith, the
people in days of old earned a good reputation.

7
3. The worlds were framed by what?
  • 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that things
which are seen were not made of things which do
    appear.

8
  • Genesis 11 In the beginning God created the
    heavens and the earth.
  • And God said, "Let there be
  • Psalm 339 For he spoke, and it came to be he
    commanded, and it stood firm.

9
The introduction of Jealousy into the world. It
kills.
  • Was Abel's sacrifice better than Cain?
  • 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent
    sacrifice than Cain,

10
Did Enoch see death or did he die?
  • 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should
not see death and was not found, because God had
translated him for before his translation he had
this testimony, that he pleased God.

11
John 851
  • Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will
    never see death."

12
What must we do to come to God?
  • 6 But without faith it is impossible to
please him for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of
    them that diligently seek him.

13
Breaking Barriers
  • Nothing is impossible, the word itself says
  • 'I'm possible'!
  • Audrey Hepburn

14
Galatians 39
  • So all who put their faith in Christ share the
same blessing Abraham received because of his
    faith.

15
7. What will God do for people who diligently
seek him?
  • He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek
    him.
  • Hebrews 116c

16
8. What did Noah do to save his household or
family?
  • 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things
not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark
to the saving of his house by the which he
condemned the world, and became heir of the
    righteousness which is by faith.

17
Read Genesis 69-22
  • Jesus Christ, our Ark of salvation. Jesus said
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will
    be saved (John 109)

18
9. Did Abraham know where he was going?
  • 8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place
he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed
and went, even though he did not know where he
    was going.

19
10. What were the names of Abraham's two son's
with him in the land of promise?
  • 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise,
as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles
with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the
    same promise

20
Genesis 127
  • The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your
offspring I will give this land." So he built an
altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

21
11. Abraham looked for a city built by who?
  • 10 For he looked for a city which hath
foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

22
12. Sarah had a baby when she was young or old?
  • 11 Through faith also Sara herself received
strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a
child when she was past age, because she judged
    him faithful who had promised.

23
Genesis 212
  • Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham
in his old age, at the very time God had promised
    him.

24
  • Health is the greatest gift,
  • contentment the greatest wealth,
  • faithfulness the
  • best relationship.

25
  • God always gives His best to those who leave the
    choice with him.
  • Jim Elliot

26
Believe
  • Skepticism has kept me from believing in true
love - one that is pure and enduring. However, I
never doubted my grandparents relationship. They
had love down pat. Their relationship was based
on a devotion and passionate affection, which not
    everyone is blessed to experience.

27
Good NewsFaith is Believing
  • 22 Have faith in God, Jesus answered. 23
Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this
mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and
does not doubt in their heart but believes that
what they say will happen, it will be done for
them.  24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask
for in prayer, believe that you have received it,
    and it will be yours.

28
God bless you
