- Before cutting you will need to carefully examine
describe each of the following - Eyes Whiskers
- Nostrils Mouth/Teeth/Tongue
- Feet/Nails Tail
- Before moving on, determine if your rat is male
or female and have your teacher verify this.

- You may need to pin your rat at this
- time.
- This would need to be done at the
- wrist and ankle regions.
- Refer to the diagram to see the path
- you will need to take to remove the
- skin from the abdominal and
- thoracic areas.

- It is helpful to
- use the forceps
- and scissors to
- remove the skin.

REMOVING SKIN
- Do not cut too deep. You only want to remove the
skin from the muscle. - If you cut too deep you will cut through the
muscle and into the abdominal and thoracic
cavities. - You will see a thick brown liquid if you cut too
deep.
