Reciprocating Saw

• It is best described as a mechanized version of a
  hand saw
• A blade is clamped into the end of the saw
• A motor drives the blade forward and backward
• Usually has trigger controlled variable speeds
• Either cordless (Battery Operated) or electric
  powered

Uses

• Typically, Reciprocating saws do not have a great
  amount of finesse
• Cannot be used for precision cutting
• Well suited for fast and crude cutting
• More likely to find applications in demolition
  rather than fine cabinet making

Different Applications

• A few types of commonly used blades
• Bi-Metal Blades Wide variety of uses in wood,
  metal, plastics, fiberglass, plaster and other
  common building materials.
• Carbon Steel Blades Cutting Abrasive materials
  that require the action of cutting teeth
• Tungsten Carbide Grit Blades Super resistant to
  heat and shock making it ideal for cutting very
  hard metals
• U-Shank Bi-Metal Blades Specially designed for
  sawing pipes and metal sections

Flexibility

• There is no other tool that can approach its
  flexibility and power in cutting a wide range of
  materials in all sorts of awkward situations
• Has a variety of blades available for cutting
  various surfaces
• This is the tool of choice for rough-cutting
  openings in plaster or drywall, siding, plywood
  and flooring
• Can also use it to cut plastic and most metals

In Conclusion

• When tackling a serious remodeling project, a
  reciprocating saw should be considered because of
  its flexibility and variety of uses
