Urinalysis

• Equipment needed
• Urine sample specimen in a cup with a lid
• Gloves
• Chemstrip/multistix dip stick-check expiration
  date on the chemstrip bottle. Do not use the
  chemstrip if it has expired.
• Urinalysis results documentation sheet.
• Paper Towels
• Stable surface such as a desk or table.

• Put on gloves

• Put on gloves
• Place urine specimen on stable surface.
• Take cap of the chemstrip bottle and take out 1
  dipstick. Replace the cap.

• Put on gloves
• Place urine specimen on stable surface.
• Take cap off the chemstrip bottle and take out 1
  dipstick. Replace the cap.
• Place dipstick in urine, making sure to
  completely cover the reactive part of the
  dipstick.

Urinalysis

• After 60 seconds start reading the dipstick by
  comparing the color of each reactive square to
  the corresponding square on the bottle and
  document the values on the record sheet.
• Discard the urine specimen and all other used
  materials in a appropriate disposal receptacle.
• Remove gloves and discard in in a appropriate
  disposal receptacle.
• Wash Hands.
