Women voters may be the deciding factor
2
The close race for the White House between
President Barack Obama and his Republican
challenger, former Gov. Mitt Romney, could very
well be decided by women voters in the
battleground states on election day (Nov. 6,
2012). When analyzing the numbers and figures
over the last several elections here is what was
found. 70.4 million -- The number of women who
cast ballots in the 2008 presidential election,
versus 60.7 million men. 597,000 -- The number by
which female voters in Florida outvoted males in
the 2008 election, the largest gap in the swing
states.

  • The family of a Texas convict executed for the
deaths of his three daughters in a 1991 fire
launched a new effort to clear his name Wednesday
by asking the state parole board for a posthumous
pardon. Cameron Todd Willingham was put to death
in 2004 for setting the fire that killed the
    girls Amber, Karmon and Kameron.
  • Operators of a South African gold mine fired
8,100 striking workers after they did not return
to work. Some 15,000 workers at Gold Fields
Limited's KDC East mine near Johannesburg had
been participating in an on-again, off-again
strike since August. Many workers returned to
work this week, and the company said it fired
    those who did not return.
  • Holiday airfares appear to be going up, the
result of the usual higher demand for airline
tickets around the holidays, airline mergers,
flight cutbacks and higher airline fuel prices.
People are also being charged more to check
luggage, for coach seats with extra leg room and
aisle seats, making it harder to seat families
    together at the last minute.
