Due to his enormous success with movie audiences
in the US and abroad (including Canada, England,
China and Australia), Felix was the worlds first
cartoon film star. His popularity rivaled that of
actors Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton. The
Felix the Cat comic strip debuted in Britain's
Daily Sketch on August 1, 1923 publication in
the United States began on August 19. Charles
Lindbergh carried a photograph of Felix as his
lucky mascot during his historic transatlantic
flight on May 20 21, 1927. In November 1927,
Felix The Cat was the first giant balloon to
appear in the MACYS Thanksgiving Parade. A 13
papier-mâché Felix was the first image broadcast
on television airwaves in an experiment conducted
by RCA Research Labs in New York City in 1928.

animated film Feline Follies. He was created
by New Jersey cartoonist Otto Messmer.
