Science Ourselves Staying Healthy This half

Literacy text by examining the subject of the
human body and how to keep it healthy. We will be
studying conditions in Victorian society which
were detrimental to staying healthy.
Numeracy We are focusing on times tables
facts. Year 5 pupils should know all facts up to
the 12 x table as well as corresponding division
facts (i.e. 7 x 9 63 therefore 63 / 9
7). There is a section on the Maths blog which
links to times tables activities and tests to
help learn these facts at home.
PE Striking and Fielding Games Class 5 will be
studying different games that involve striking
and fielding. We will learn the skills for
effectively striking balls/objects and effective
ways to throw and catch these balls/objects.
RE Communication We will be learning how
religious ideas and messages are communicated. We
will be principally studying communication within
the Christian faith but also making links to
similarities and differences in communication
within different faith groups.
PHSE Anti-Bullying Our new PHSE topic is
Anti-Bullying. We will be learning about how to
recognise and define bullying as well as how to
effectively combat the problem. We will be
specifically studying the issue of cyber-bullying.
Literacy Oliver Twist All our Literacy lessons
will be themed around the book Oliver Twist by
Charles Dickens. We will be studying Charles
Dickens as a significant author and prominent
member of Victorian society. We will also be
studying the language and themes contained within
Dickens classic text.
History Victorians Rich and Poor Lives Once
again we will be making links to Oliver Twist. We
will be studying the contrasting lifestyles of
rich and poor members of Victorian society with
specific focus on life within Workhouses
contrasted with the opulence of The Great
Exhibition of 1851.
Art Portraits Again linking to Oliver Twist,
Class 5 will be creating portraits influenced by
prominent Victorian artists Philip Webb and
William Morris.
