Who is Eric Carle?

• Eric Carle was born on June 25, 1929 in
  Syracuse,
• New York.
• Carle and his family moved to Germany when he
  was 6.
• He went to art school.
• He came back to the USA in 1952.
• Now, Carle lives in Massachusetts and spends time
  in the
• NC mountains.

• Eric Carle makes childrens books.
• He writes them.
• He illustrates them.
• The first book he illustrated was Brown Bear,

Where does he get ideas?

• Some of his ideas floated around in his head
  since
• he was a kid.
• One time, he got an idea for a book from
  punching
• holes in a stack of paper.
• He gets lots of ideas from nature.

Eric Carles Artwork

• Eric Carle makes collage illustrations.
• He mixes paint with water.
• Then he paints bold colors onto white tissue
  paper.
• He paints with brushes and his fingers.
• When the paper dries, he cuts out shapes.
• He glues the shapes down to make pictures.
• Sometimes, he uses crayons and colored pencils to
  add
• details.
