2The patients of 92 studies have been enrolled in
the ongoing meta-analysis.
3Patient criteria Group I Patients controlling
their diabetes by diet and exercise. Group
2 Patients controlling their diabetes with
tablets (OHA). Group 3 Patients controlling
their diabetes with insulin (?OHA).
4Studies search Studies included were derived
from medline using the key words Ramadan,
fasting and diabetes
5Inclusion criteria Reports of data from
original studies including data from the control
period before or after Ramadan and data from the
period of Ramadan.
6Exclusion criteria - Reports before and after
Ramadan only. - Review articles. - Case
studies. - Letter to editors.
7The main points of the study 1) Hypoglycemic
episodes Severity frequency. 2) The
glucose excursions. 3) PostIftar
hyperglycemia. 4) The frequency of cardiac
events Angina, Arrhythmias Myocardial
infarction.
