Entry Requirements

• Basic Surgical Training- 3 years SHO
• Entry competitive- often research (M Sc) or
  membership examinations completed prior to entry
  with Part 1 MRCOphth
• Completion with MRCOphth eligible for entry to
  HST scheme- 4.5 year programme (surgery)

Examinations

• Part-1 Basic science emphasis on ophthalmology
  (prior to entry)- anatomy, head and neck, CNS,
  visual system
• Part-2 2 years- Optic and Refraction
• Part-3 Clinical Examination (within 2 years)

Outcome

• MRCOphth- one extra year and eligible for entry
  to specialist register as community ophthalmic
  physician (COP)
• Entry to HST to become Ophthalmic Surgeon
• 2 years Fellowship and sub-specialise
