The Preparing Phase consists of a one-on-one
meeting between the Coach and Client. During the
meeting, the Coach discusses how to get the most
out of the training, how the coaching process
will proceed after the training and what barriers
to learning may occur.
The Learning Phase begins with the actual
training activity. This may take the form of
online training, external seminars or internal
classes and workshops. Soon after completion of
the training, the Coach debriefs the Client on
what was learned and how to apply this new
knowledge on the job. The final outcome of this
meeting is a written Development Coaching Plan
which is the foundation for the next phase of the
process.
The Applying Phase is where the new knowledge is
applied to the real world back on the job. The
Coach guides the Client through their
Development Coaching Plan. The Coach also
maintains contact with the Clients boss with
updates on the Client progress.
The Assessing Phase consists of a meeting between
Coach, Client and the Clients boss. An
assessment is made to determine if development
goals have been met or more coaching / training
is required.
