Title: Malcolm X

1
Malcolm X
  • The Man Who Would . . .

2
The Beginning
  • He was the seventh child of J. Early Little and
the fourth of M. Louise Norton
  • Malcolm grew up in Lansing MI
  • His father was from Georgia and a preacher.

3
Marcus Garvey Impact
  • His father was a national and followed Marcus
    Garvey.
  • His father was the president of the Omaha branch
    of the UNIA.
  • His mother was a reporter and said that his
mother was "an active worker in the Garvey
    movement."

4
Terrorist Group
  • Malcolm grew up in a proud household whose father
was not afraid of anyone. His family was driven
out of Omaha by the KKK when he was a baby

5
Home Life
  • He experienced violence not only of whites but
his mother and father argued quite a bit. His
father also beat his mother and they both beat
    the children.

6
A Collage
  • His father's death had a major impact on the
family. Louise Little was trying to survive with
8 children during the depression years and
    continue on without her husband.

7
Movin Up and Movin On
  • He finally dropped out when he was fifteen and
went to live with his sister Ella Mae Little
    Collins in Boston.

8
The Bury
  • Malcolm was attracted to the 'hood' life of
Roxbury aka "the Bury" which differed from the
bougie section of town. Other blacks looked down
    on folks from Roxbury.

9
Actin
  • Malcolm was disturbed by black who thought
themselves better than others putting on phoney
accents talking about being in "securities,
banking" and the like. He called them "Hill
    clowns."

10
7th Heaven
  • Malcolm was overwhelmed when he arrived in
Harlem--it was 7th heaven. "It was in Harlem
that Malcolm was 'schooled' in his hustling trade
    by the experts . . "

11
A ReEducation
  • It was while he was in jail that he came under
the influence of the teaching of the Honorable
Elijah Muhammad, which greatly changed his life.
