Apollo Missions
  • Apollo became a NASA priority on May 25 1961,
    when President John F. Kennedy announced "I
    believe that this nation should commit itself to
    achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of
    landing a man on the Moon and returning him
    safely to Earth." A direct response to Soviet
    successes in space, Kennedy used Apollo as a
    high-profile effort for the U.S. to demonstrate
    to the world its scientific and technological
    superiority over its cold war adversary.
