Lin Hwai-min

• In 1947 was born in Chiayi, Taiwan, Newport
• In 1969 22 years old, published the short story
  collection, "Cicada"
• In 1973, 26 years old, returned to Taipei and
  founded "Cloud Gate Dance Theater," Taiwan's
  first modern dance troupe

• In 1980 the fifth National Arts Award and the
  third prize of Wu San-lien Awards
• In 1996 "Asian Artist Award for Lifetime
  Achievement" by New York City Department of
  Cultural Affairs
• In 2005 TIME magazine's Asian Heroes in 2005
