When to provide personal information

Your employer will need to know your
- Contact address and telephone number(s)
- Bank details (so your wages can be paid)
- Education details (qualifications youve got)

Why does your employer need to know these things?
To prevent fraud (to stop someone else gaining
access to your bank account).
To check identity (to prove you are who you say
you are).
To protect you and your personal details.
To pay you.

In which ways could you give your personal
information to your employers?
Online (when they are paying you)
Face to face (during a job interview)
Over the telephone (when you call them because
youre too ill to go to work)
8Sharing your details by telephone
There will be times where you will either make or
receive a telephone call where you will share
your personal details
You may call your boss to give him your new
telephone number.
You may receive a call from your boss to confirm
your shifts for the next week.
9Personal documents
There are many personal documents you will use at
work, for example
Form to join the work pension
Annual leave requests
Certificates of qualifications
Bank details form
Health/sickness absence information
These may be handwritten or electronic.

Your employer needs information for your
personnel record. You will provide this on your
CV
11Personal achievement evidence
As well as your qualification certificates you
may also have
Examples of previous work, eg drawings or reports.
Reference letters, eg from your work experience
placement.
You may have paper versions or you may have
electronic versions such as PowerPoint
presentations.
12When to provide personal information
You will be asked to give your personal details
many times during your working life, eg
- Setting up a pension plan
- Reporting your sickness absence
13Sharing your details
Warning!
Remember personal information is just that - it
is personal to you only and some of it should
never be given out to others.
14Sharing your details
Make sure you never
Give out your bank account details (for example
your pin number or password) in reply to an email.
Give anyone elses personal details to another
person.
Share any of your computer passwords with anyone.
