2The battles of Concord and Lexington were fought
in Massachusetts in April, 1775. The Redcoats ,
led by General Thomas Gage, ordered the soldiers
to Concord to destroy colonists weapons supply.
Minutemen at Lexington tried to stop them 8
were killed.

By the time the British got to Concord, they
realized most of the weapons and gun powder were
gone because the minutemen had been warned by
Paul Revere. The British continued to Concord and
were forced to retreat back to Boston by the
Minutemen. On their way back, the American
militia attacked the British from cover and
killed 73 British. Lexington and Concord started
the American Revolution and was known as the
shot heard around the world

TURNING POINT OF THE WAR!!!
- Before reaching Albany, British General Burgoyne
was surrounded by the American army and running
out of supplies.
9Burgoyne surrendered the entire army on October
17, 1777. This was a major turning point in the
war, ended the British threat to New England and
convinced the French to become allies.
10Battle of Saratoga
SIGNIFICANCE France decided to help Americans
because they might have a chance of winning the
war.

British army.

British General Cornwallis surrendered to the
Americans.
16After being on the run for so long, Washington
turned tables on the British. On Christmas night,
1776, Washington and his men crossed the
Delaware. The soldiers braved the freezing
temperatures and a lack of proper clothing.

British decided to negotiate not worth it to
keep fighting.
