  • What is humate? Humic acid?
  • Humate - Fossilized Humic Substances found in
mineral deposits formed by prehistoric organisms
and known as peat, lignite, anthracite, and
bituminous coal. Peat is the newest of the three
and bituminous is the oldest. They usually
contain large quantities of trace minerals.
  • Humic Acid - Humic acid composes the fraction of
humic substances that is not soluble in water
under acid conditions, but becomes soluble under
    higher pH or basic conditions.

3
  • Whats the difference?
  • Humus - Organic portion of soil containing
partially or wholly decayed plant and animal
matter. It contains both humic and non-humic
    substances
  • Humic Substance - Naturally occurring, biogenic,
    heterogeneous organic substances. Generally have
high molecular weight. Generally divided into 3
    different groups
  • Humic Acid - soluble in alkaline solution
  • Fulvic Acid - soluble in both acid and/or water,
    or base
  • Humin - non soluble, high molecular weight
    polymers.

4
  • What can they do?
  • 1. Increase the water holding capacity of soil.
  • 2. Break up unproductive clay soils.
  • 3. Help retain water soluble inorganic
fertilizers, then release them as needed to
    plants.
  • 4. Stimulate seed germination and viability, and
    root formation, respiration, and growth.
  • 5. Fosters improved soil drainage.
  • 6. Increase uptake of proteins and minerals
    by plants.
  • 7. Establish a desirable environment for
    microorganism development.

5
  • Where Do Humates Come From?
  • Humates occur in many forms in different parts of
the world. Some deposits originated in saltwater,
but Menefee Humate is mined from one of the
richest deposits of freshwater humates in the
world, the Menefee formation located in New
    Mexico, U.S.A.
  • Why Is Menefee Humate so Special?
  • Menefee Humate is a pathogen free,
  • totally natural soil conditioner without
chemical product, containing virtually no salt,
  • that utilizes prehistoric organic material to
    stimulate microbial activity and
  • improve the plants ability to take in vital
    nutrients
  • for enhanced growth and development.

  • Where Do Humates Come From?

Salt Water Based Leonardite
Fresh Water Based Menefee Humate
7
  • For over 70 million years, prehistoric plants
and animals lay decomposed beneath the earths
    surface.
  • Now, through a series of geological events and
volcanic eruptions, this rich organic material,
Menefee Humate is now available for all types of
    soil enrichment programs.

Menefee HumateA Natural Trace Mineral, Carbon,
and Humic Acid Based Soil Conditioner
  • Product Description
  • A natural trace mineral, carbon, and humic acid
based granular soil conditioner that acts as an
organic chelator and microbial stimulator. It has
a unique carbon matrix incorporating a high
concentration of trace minerals and organic
acids, specifically humic acid, which improves
the plants ability to take in vital nutrients.
    For plant growth and development.

Humic Acid Based Water-Soluble Powders
  • Advantages vs. Liquid Humic Fulvic Acid
    Products
  • Compatibility maintain a near neutral pH of 6,2
    6,4. Compatible with liquid fertilizers,
    micronutrients, fungicides, and insecticides. Go
into a true solution so there are no
sedimentation problems in blending tanks or
    clogging in applicators.
  • Composition maintain a high level of humic
acid, fulvic acid, and carbon. Extensive research
demonstrates the benefits of using both humic
acid and fulvic acid in the same application if
    possible.
  • Efficacy very effective at low rates. Foliar
    applications of 125 250 grams/hectare per
application and soil applications of 250 500
    grams/hectare per application with standard
nutrient programs have proven to be very
    effective.
  • Economical A retail cost to the grower which is
very affordable as an ingredient in any fertility
    program.
  • Transportation, storage, and handling super
    concentrated spray dried water-soluble powders
are easy to ship and store until time of
    application.

Another significant effect of the Menefee
HumateTM on onion production is that of onion
pungency. Pungency refers to how hot and strong
the flavor of an onion is. The data show that an
increase in the rate of Menefee HumateTM resulted
in a decrease in onion pungency.
