3 MOTIVATION FOR ESTABLISHING THE
CENTRE
- University of Port Harcourt is among 18 other
African Universities that won the World Bank
grant to establish African Centre of Excellence.
- Locally, sourced cost-effective OILFIELD
CHEMICALS are required for drilling, well
completion, and achieving optimum oil recovery. - Currently, several billions of dollars are spent,
annually, importing these chemicals in the Gulf
of Guinea for petroleum exploitation. - Yet, numerous natural resources can be,
successfully, processed and used for these
operations. - Nigeria and other African countries have abundant
supplies of these resources. - Developing technologies for in-country production
of oilfield chemicals will improve profit margin,
build human capacity and create jobs.
