  Studies tests for 2011-2012.

MEAP and MME Social Studies

• After a two-year hiatus, Michigan educators were
  invited to Lansing this August to write new
  Social Studies items for both the MEAP and the
  MME assessments.

MEAP Grade 6 Social Studies

• Scheduled for October 19
• Estimated testing times
• Part 1, 37 items (including field-test items), 40
  minutes
• Part 2, 23 items (including field-test items), 40
  minutes

MEAP Grade 9 Social Studies

• Scheduled for October 19
• Estimated testing times
• Part 1, 37 items (including field-test items), 50
  minutes
• Part 2, 25 items (including field-test items), 40
  minutes

MME Social Studies

• Scheduled for March 8
• Testing time 35 minutes
• 48 items (including field-test items)

• These items will be reviewed prior to
  field-testing by two committees of Michigan
  educators
• Content Committee
• Bias and Sensitivity Committee

Social Studies Alignment Project

• Several years ago, Curriculum and Assessment
  staff from the Michigan Department of Education
  undertook a Social Studies Alignment Project.
• Among the various goals of the project were to
• Explicate the scope of the standards as defined
  by the content expectations at each grade level
• Create an assessment plan for MEAP and MME Social
  Studies

• The clarification of Standards, GLCEs, and
  content eligible for testing remains valid.
• However, the matrixed plan for MEAP and MME
  Social Studies assessments has remained outside
  of the MDE budgetary and staffing resources.

• Michigan should remain proud that it is one of
  the few states that still tests Social Studies
  content!
