What makes that such a great deal?

  • Medical insurance with a 25,000 limit would
    probably cost 20 per month.
  • And the model fire theft insurance can only be
purchased with a homeowners policy, at additional
    premium.

5
  • And all of this is INCLUDED
  • in your 58 annual dues.

6

Bargain!!!

What is Liability Insurance? And why do I need
it?
  • Liability insurance protects you from claims or
lawsuits claiming your legal responsibility for
damage or injury caused by your negligent act(s).
  • Protection against negotiated settlement or court
    judgments.
  • Pays for the cost of investigation and legal
    costs, including defense attorney fees.
  • Interest on judgments and other related costs.

9
What are negligent acts?
  • Examples
  • Loss of control of aircraft, strikes another
    member or spectator, or vehicle.
  • Inattention or error in takeoff or landing,
    aircraft strikes person or vehicle.
  • Helper injured by propeller when you accidentally
    hit the throttle.

10
Clubs and club officers are covered also!
  • Premises liability, such as slip-and-fall due to
defect in the premises, or bleacher collapse.
  • Injury or damage caused by club activities.
  • Claim or suit against a club officer alleging
injury due to lack of safety enforcement or
    similar allegations of officer negligence.

11
Remember
  • AMA liability insurance is a legal liability
coverage. That means that the insured must be
legally liable due to negligence before payment
is offered to the injured party.
  • This is not a voluntary payment coverage.

12
All Policies Have Exclusions
  • Model to Model Damage
  • Family Member Injuries
  • Obsolete Radio Equipment (per FCC)
  • Frequency Interference (unless event impound
    error)
  • Business Pursuits (profit to individual members
    or their business)
  • Automobile Liability
  • Boats over 26 long
  • And other standard exclusions

13
Special FeatureSite Owner Coverage
  • The 2,500,000 liability limit that applies to
site owners applies per location (site), so the
limit is available to the site owner at each
    insured site.
  • This means the site owner does not have to be
concerned about sharing the limit with 2,500
    other site owners.

14
The liability policy is excess coverage
  • Why?
  • Homeowners policy specifically insures you and is
    primary.
  • Required by insurance company to keep premium
    cost down.
  • Saves AMA and its members over 100,000 each year
    in insurance costs.

15
Myth-Buster
  • Myth
  • AMA insurance isnt any good- looks for ways to
    deny coverage.
  • Fact
  • AMA and its insurance company have paid out
almost 4 million for liability claims since
    1999.
  • Number of claims where AMA denied coverage is ZERO

16
FACT
  • Only one claim has been denied in the last 20
    years.
  • That was a member who intentionally flew his
    plane into a blimp!!

17
Myth-Buster
  • Myth
  • AMA uses the waiver on the membership application
to deny coverage based on assumption of risk.
  • Fact
  • AMA has never denied a claim on the basis that an
AMA member acknowledged that model flying posed
    risks

18
Want to know the value of AMA Liability
insurance?
  • Ask the members who had a serious or catastrophic
accident and AMA coverage stepped up to pay the
injured party, protecting the member, his family
    and his assets.
  • Or the club that had a bad premises accident and
AMA paid on behalf of the club.
  • AMA insurance is valuable, and it works to
    protect YOU!!

19
