Title: Rounding to the Nearest 100 (Larger Numbers)
1Rounding to the Nearest 100(Larger Numbers)
2Rounding to the Nearest 100
- Decide
- Which two hundreds is the number between
- Which hundred is it nearest to
3Rounding to the Nearest 100
- Rules
- If it ends in a number between 1 and 49 round to
the hundred before - If it ends in a number between 51 and 99, round
to the hundred after - If it ends in 50 (which is half way between two
hundreds) always round up to the higher hundred
4Rounding to the Nearest 100
- Example 1
- Round off 2143
- It is between 2100 and 2200
- It ends in 43, so it rounds down to 2100
- (You only have to go back 43 to get to 2100, but
you would have to go forward 57 to get to 2200)
5Rounding to the Nearest 100
- Example 2
- Round off 7456
- It is between 7400 and 7500
- It ends in 56, so it rounds up to 7500
- (You only have to go forward 44 to get to 7500,
but you would have to go back 56 to get to 7400)
6Rounding to the Nearest 100
- Example 3
- Round off 8750
- It is between 8700 and 8800
- It ends in 50, so it rounds up to 8800
- (The rule is that when it ends in 50, it is half
way between the two hundreds, so you always round
up to the higher hundred)
