Today. Are We Ignoring the Prophets?
Whats Next?
5Matt. 24 (JST)
24 And it came to pass that I beheld others
pressing forward, and they came forth and caught
hold of the end of the rod of iron and they did
press forward through the mist of darkness,
clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did
come forth and partake of the fruit of the
tree. 25 And after they had partaken of the fruit
of the tree they did cast their eyes about as if
they were ashamed.
- And Jesus left them, and went upon the
Mount of Olives. And as he sat upon the
Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him
privately, saying Tell us when shall these
things be which thou hast said concerning
the destruction of the temple, and the Jews
and what is the sign of thy coming, and of
the end of the world, or the destruction of
the wicked, which is the end of the world? - And Jesus answered, and said unto them Take heed
that no man deceive you - For many shall come in my name, sayingI am
Christand shall deceive many - Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted,
and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all
nations, for my name's sake - And then shall many be offended, and shall betray
one another, and shall hate one another - And many false prophets shall arise, and shall
deceive many - And because iniquity shall abound, the love of
many shall wax cold - But he that remaineth steadfast and is not
overcome, the same shall be saved. - When you, therefore, shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,
concerning the destruction of Jerusalem, then you
shall stand in the holy place whoso readeth let
him understand.
When is He talking about? Who is He talking about?
Who would be offended?
6Question
- Stand Ye in Holy Places
- Where are these Holy Places?
- Does it matter where we stand as long as we keep
the commandments? - Why would we stand anywhere else?
7While we are standing
- Verily I say unto you all of the
Church Arise and shine forth, that thy
light may be a standard for the nations and
that the gathering together upon the land of
Zion, and upon her stakes, may be for a
defense, and for a refuge from the storm,
and from wrath when it shall be poured out
without mixture upon the whole earth." (DC
1155-6.) - "Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not
moved, until the day of the Lord come for
behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord." (DC
878)
We are to Stand in Holy Places, but, we are not
to stand around!
8Elder Eyring
- A morning prayer and an early search
in the scriptures to know what we
should do for the Lord can set the course
of a day. - We can know which task, of all those we might
choose, matters most to God and therefore to us.
I have learned such a prayer is always answered
if we ask and ponder with childlike submission,
ready to act without delay to perform even the
most humble service. - (April 2007 General Conference.)
9What would prepare us the most?
- Scanning the headlines?
- Or scanning our heart?
- Watching for Signs of the Times?
- Or watching for Sins?
- Fearing Armageddon?
- Anticipating Adam Ondi Ahman?
- Ignoring the Prophet in order to fit in?
- Obeying the Prophet in order to stand out?
10Robert L. Millet
- To read the signs of the times in our day is
to read the signs of wear and tear in the
countenances of those who have chosen to
lovequestionable causes. Error and wickedness
take their terrible tolls upon the hearts of
those who choose divergent paths the wheels of
waywardness grind away slowly but inexorably to
produce a type of demented character that will
never know peace of mind. - To read the signs of the times in this era of
time is to make a decision in favor of Zionor in
favor of BabylonEach city, Zion and Babylon,
makes definite requirements of its citizens, and
as the end approaches, each community will insist
upon the total devotion and consecration of its
municipals. - To read the signs is to recognize that in the
future fewer and fewer Latter Day Saints will be
lukewarm that the myopic and the misguided of
the religious world will grow in cynicism and
confusion that the ungodly will, as time goes
by, sink ever deeper into a despair known only to
those who revel in iniquity and that wickedness
will widen and malevolence multiply until the
citizens of Babylon seal themselves to him who is
the father of all lies. - (Eye Single to the Glory of God, p. 102)
11Signs of the Times
- The Signs of the Times are found in
our faces each time a weary world sees
something different in us. - The Signs of the Times are found in the
lives of Saints trimming their lamps in
preparation for the coming of the
Bridegroom. - Finally, Signs of the Times are found in hearts
filled with hope who view the fig leaves with
growing anticipation and joy.
