Title: Rattler Mountain Reclamation Project

1
Rattler Mountain Reclamation Project
  • Dedication of the Site,
  • May 21, 2003
  • Morris Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania

2
PA Game Commission invites staff, community and
contractors to a dedication, May 21, 2003
3
Dennis Dusza, NC district manager, introduces
speakers and guests. Dusza is a major mover in
coordinating the project which was undertaken
fall 2001 through to summer 2002.
4
Greg Barchey, of Kyler Environmental, coordinated
the delivery of biosolids and its application to
Rattler Mountain.
5
Vern Ross, Ex. Dir of the Commission, describes
the mission to restore habitats and the role of
biosolids in that mission.
6
The Babb Creek Watershed leadership accepts a
gift of gratitude. This group provided funding
and leadership.
7
The Commission unveils a sign acknowledging the
cooperators in this project.
8
Barchey is joined by Doug Saylor, DEP, and Diane
Garvey, representing WMPI, the PWD contractor for
the reclamation program
9
Biosolids was applied directly to a bony pile
of rock debris, and seeded without plowing. The
ground cover is thick and the surface is stable.
10
Game Commission staff from other districts are
out in force to learn of the techniques used on
this disturbed ground. The wheat that covers the
ground will be replaced by a mix of herbs and
grasses and several thousand woody plant species.
11
Construction of a SAP, a device to trap toxic
metals discharges, is underway at a major
discharge point.
12
This shows the beautiful green cover created by
the biosolids. The Game Commission took extra
care to rake out large stones and fill in plow
furrows so that ongoing maintenance of the field
could be performed.
13
The Game Commission designed the site to have
edge to attract turkey, grouse and the animals
that prey on them. Evidence of game use of the
fields is already in evidence.
