Title: Create a beam of 100 particles with standard deviation sx=(bx ex)1/2

1
Computer lab, Thursday 01 July 2004 BCM
Consider the FODO cell
use L1.9 m, K0.5 m-1
Create a beam of 100 particles with standard
deviation sx(bx ex)1/2 sx(ex/bx)1/2 , with
bx6.8 m, ex1 mm, and track it over 1000 turns
through the lattice. Compute the emittance
ex(ltx2gtltx2gt-ltxxgt2)1/2 as a function of turn
number next apply on each turn a stochastic
cooling correction, where the x coordinate of
all particles are shifted by Compute the
emittance vs. time for g0.1, g1, g10 Later
note To get cooling, we either need to slice the
bunch longitudinally and include synchrotron
motion, or add nonlinearity, e.g., a sextupole!
