Title: ARE YOU A DISCIPLE OF JESUS?
1ARE YOU A DISCIPLE OF JESUS?
2The word disciple literally means learner, it
denotes "one who follows another's teaching" -
Vine's
3Luke 640 "A disciple is not above his teacher,
but everyone who is perfectly trained will be
like his teacher.
41 Corinthians 11 Imitate me, just as I also
imitate Christ.
5A disciple is one who abides in Jesus words.
John 831 Then Jesus said to those Jews who
believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are
My disciples indeed. 32 "And you shall know the
truth, and the truth shall make you free."
62 John 19 Whoever transgresses and does not
abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have
God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has
both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes
to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not
receive him into your house nor greet him 11
for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
7Matthew 721" Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord,
Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he
who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22
"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord,
have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out
demons in Your name, and done many wonders in
Your name?' 23 "And then I will declare to them,
'I never knew you depart from Me, you who
practice lawlessness!' 24 " Therefore whoever
hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I
will liken him to a wise man who built his house
on the rock 25 "and the rain descended, the
floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that
house and it did not fall, for it was founded on
the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these
sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be
like a foolish man who built his house on the
sand 27 "and the rain descended, the floods
came, and the winds blew and beat on that house
and it fell. And great was its fall."
8James 121 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and
overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness
the implanted word, which is able to save your
souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if
anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he
is like a man observing his natural face in a
mirror 24 for he observes himself, goes away,
and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of
liberty and continues in it, and is not a
forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one
will be blessed in what he does.
9A disciple of Christ is one who loves the
brethren. As Jesus said John 1334 "A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one
another as I have loved you, that you also love
one another. 35 "By this all will know that you
are My disciples, if you have love for one
another."
101 Corinthians 1225 that there should be no
schism in the body, but that the members should
have the same care for one another. 26 And if
one member suffers, all the members suffer with
it or if one member is honored, all the members
rejoice with it.
11A disciple of Christ is one who bears fruit. As
Jesus said John 158 "By this My Father is
glorified, that you bear much fruit so you will
be My disciples.
12Matthew 516 "Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works and glorify
your Father in heaven.
13Matthew 2521 'Well done, good and faithful
servant you were faithful over a few things, I
will make you ruler over many things. Enter into
the joy of your lord.'
14John 151 "I am the true vine, and My Father is
the vinedresser. 2 "Every branch in Me that does
not bear fruit He takes away
15Matthew 2526 'You wicked and lazy servant 30
cast the unprofitable servant into the outer
darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of
teeth.'
16Luke 1425 Now great multitudes went with Him.
And He turned and said to them, 26 "If anyone
comes to Me and does not hate his father and
mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters,
yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My
disciple.
17Matthew 1034- " Do not think that I came to
bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring
peace but a sword. 35 "For I have come to 'set a
man against his father, a daughter against her
mother, and a daughter-in-law against her
mother-in-law' 36 "and 'a man's enemies will be
those of his own household.' 37 "He who loves
father or mother more than Me is not worthy of
Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me
is not worthy of Me.
18Luke 923- Then He said to them all, "If anyone
desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24
"For whoever desires to save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will
save it. 25 "For what profit is it to a man if
he gains the whole world, and is himself
destroyed or lost?
192 Timothy 312 Yes, and all who desire to live
godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
20Luke 1428 For which of you, intending to build a
tower, does not sit down first and count the
cost, whether he has enough to finish it -- 29
"lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is
not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock
him, 30 "saying, 'This man began to build and
was not able to finish.' 31 "Or what king, going
to make war against another king, does not sit
down first and consider whether he is able with
ten thousand to meet him who comes against him
with twenty thousand? 32 "Or else, while the
other is still a great way off, he sends a
delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 "So
likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all
that he has cannot be My disciple.
21Romans 58 But God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now
been justified by His blood, we shall be saved
from wrath through Him.
222 Thessalonians 16 since it is a righteous thing
with God to repay with tribulation those who
trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled
rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from
heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire
taking vengeance on those who do not know God,
and on those who do not obey the gospel of our
Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished
with everlasting destruction from the presence of
the Lord and from the glory of His power,
2310 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in
His saints and to be admired among all those who
believe, because our testimony among you was
believed. 11 Therefore we also pray always for
you that our God would count you worthy of this
calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His
goodness and the work of faith with power, 12
that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be
glorified in you, and you in Him, according to
the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
242 Corinthians 417 For our light affliction,
which is but for a moment, is working for us a
far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
18 while we do not look at the things which are
seen, but at the things which are not seen. For
the things which are seen are temporary, but the
things which are not seen are eternal.
25John 1427 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I
give to you not as the world gives do I give to
you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid.
26As you think about your life and your
relationship with God, are you being a disciple
of Christ? Are you putting in the time and the
effort that it takes to bear fruit and glory and
honor to our Father in heaven? Have you really
considered the cost of discipleship?
