PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS
  • Ref. (a) ICAO Airport Services Manual Doc. 9137
    (amendment 1)
  • The level of fire protection to be provided at an
    airport is based on its category, which is
    determined by the size and number of movements of
    the various aircraft using the airport, as
    defined in chapter 2 of reference (a). The
    following list reflects the aircraft type (large
    frame aircraft), number of movements during June,
    July and August and their category as depicted in
    Appendix 2 of reference (a)

    (a), KeflavĂ­k Airport would be classified as
    Category 8 airport.

  • b. The level of fire protection required for
    Category 8 airfield, as depicted in reference
    (a)
  • 1) Water required with AFFF 18.200 liters
    (4.808 gl.) with delivery rate of 7.200 L/min.
    (1.902 gpm.). See table 2-2 of reference (a).
  • 2) First truck on scene within 2 min. ready to
    discharge 50 of the required agent (parag. 2.7
    of reference (a)).
  • 3) The remaining fleet on scene no more than 1
    min. later.
