Intended Use of BiPAP A40 Home Ventilator
  • Bilevel ventilator providing invasive and non
invasive ventilation, up to 40 cmH2O
  • AVAPS-AE mode
  • Auto EPAP
  • Auto Pressure support
  • Auto Backup rate
  • Easy-to-use interface and compatible with a
detachable battery module to offer increased
    patient freedom and support
  • Unique integrated heated humidifier to minimize
water ingress and rainout for patient comfort

14
Device Description
  • The device augments patient breathing by
supplying pressurized air through a patient
    circuit.
  • It senses the patients breathing effort by
monitoring airflow in the patient circuit and
adjusts its output to assist in inhalation and
    exhalation.
  • The higher pressure makes it easier for you to
inhale, and the lower pressure makes it easier
    for you to exhale.
  • This device can also provide a single pressure
level, known as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway
    Pressure).
  • The BiPAP A40 Ventilator is compatible with the
    System One Heated Humidifier.

15
Device Description
  • The BiPAP A40 ventilator introduces a new therapy
    mode called AVAPS-AE.
  • This therapy mode combines an improved AVAPS
algorithm with an auto-back up to treat
    hypoventilation.
  • An auto-EPAP algorithm runs simultaneously with
the bi-level therapy to deliver the pressure
    support at the optimal PEEP.
  • Similar to the Trilogy 200, the BiPAP A40 can
provide pressure up to 40cm, provide invasive
support if prescribed, be used in mobile
applications such as wheelchairs, and provides an
    optional detachable battery.
  • Additionally the ventilator can be operated using
AC power, a detachable battery, or an external
    battery.

World COPD Day 2012.
  • According to a press release by the company, the
    BiPAP A40 is a new bi-level, multi-modality
ventilator with an automation ventilation system.
  • The automated ventilation mode is designed to
assist patients during the transition from a
managed healthcare facility or hospital to a
    private residence.
  • The new ventilation mode is called the AVAPS-AE.
  • Its automated mode can be used to guide
physicians during the first stages of therapy. In
addition, the system is designed to improve
efficacy and comfort for a patient

19
The new device, the BiPAP A40, was announced on
World COPD Day 2012.
  • By maintaining airway patency and delivering an
accurate amount of air for a patient, the device
can help stabilize a patients blood oxygen
    levels quickly and easily.
  • In addition, the BiPAP A40 comes with a
specialized battery module for portability. In
addition to portability, the battery mode can be
a valuable lifeline for a patient during a power
    outage.
  • Philips is proud to be able to provide access to
new and innovative solutions that improve quality
of care for respiratory patients both in
    hospital and at home.
