Integrationists believe that Blacks

• Can have justice in the US
• Can achieve success in the US
• Can also have "wholesome relations with the white
  community" (cone, 34)
• are Optimistic
• Can have freedom and democracy

Main Point

• Christianity teaches love and justice and
  believers must treat people justly and in love
  because that is what God demands as the creator
  of all. Jesus died for and we are all one. The
  integration of blacks into one community is the
  only option for Christians.

Practical Outgrowth

• There were independent black churches and black
  churches that were part of white bodies who
  wanted to separate. Blacks used the same
  articles of faith and the doctrinal
  justifications as whites.
• But the separation meant that blacks were
  rejecting the ethical behavior of whites.

Black Nationalists believe that Blacks

• are Africans not Americans
• need not appeal to US Constitution, Declaration
  of Independence, Lincoln's Emancipation
  Proclamation or even the "white man's
  Christianity"
• need to resist America and affirm their African
  heritage
• can achieve justice can only by separation
• Believe that the issue is not just oppression but
  the Whites oppressed Blacks
• strongly identified with being Black
• or assistance from Whites

Main Point

• Whites can nor would ever imagine Blacks being on
  the same level as them and therefore real freedom
  is complete separation to govern one's own
  affairs with no interference. In order to get
  respect among of nations one must earn respect.
