• 1 November 2003- While the original wave of SARS
  infections from China and South Asia appears
  under control, a mutant and virulent Super (SARS)
  has developed in Western Europe and the United
  States. It appears very contagious and nearly
  three hundred cases have been reported in Europe
  and another 250 in the U.S.
• As part of a drive to assist the economies in the
  Central Eurasian region, three major conferences
  sponsored jointly by the World Bank and the
  European Development Bank are scheduled to be
  held on the following time table
• Istanbul 6-10 November
• Baku 17-20 November
• Tashkent- 24-28 November

Delegations numbering 125 from Europe and 85 from
Washington are expected to travel to the
meetings. Small groups of 6-8 will then travel to
individual countries. All governments in the area
consider these meetings critical to their
development efforts. Eight countries in the
region have barred all travel to and from Europe
and 6 others are considering taking the same step.
