The Zimmermann Telegram
  • Discovered by the British. Germany wanted Mexico
    to join war. In return, Germany would help
    Mexico get their territories back from America.

New Inventions
  • Many advancements in warfare were made following
    the Industrial Revolution.
  • These included tanks, machine guns, poison gas,
    airplanes, and U-boats (German submarines)

  • Troops stayed in trenches and fired at each
    other. Trenches stretched across France to
    Switzerland
  • Land between the trenches is called No Mans Land.

  • The U.S. sends 250,000 troops a month.
  • Germany is overwhelmed and forced to surrender.

Trouble in Russia
  • Russia was in the middle of a Civil War.
  • Bolsheviks won and changed the name of Russia to
    the Soviet Union
  • They set up a new government based on Communism-a
    system in which the state owns all of the land,
    factories, and businesses(power rests with the
    people)
  • You had to be a member of the Communist Party to
    have any say in the government

  • Women were seen more as equals.
  • Due to their help in the factories during the
    war.
  • Eventually leads to the 19th amendment.
  • Russia becomes communist
  • Power rests with the people.
