Whats the problem

• Catch 22
• Cant get AFI/SAFIs for new BGP features until
  get RFC
• IDR wont approve drafts without some
  implementation experience
• Need Temporary AFI/SAFI for new features
• Must be able to time-out the features
• Part of bigger policy problem
• Policy is not the point of the draft

Allocation of Numbers
AFIs
SAFIs

• Allocate temporary space at top of range
• within AFI range at top
• Within SAFI range at top
• With an allocation re-use ID incremented each
  time allocation space cycles
• IANA hands out space with
• 1 year lease for groups getting draft approved by
  IDR
• If not approved in 1 year, number re-used
• If approved, the number kept on until official.
