31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

• A forward deployed, sea based, Marine Air-Ground
  Task Force which provides the Combatant Commander
  with a rapid response capability that is
  self-sustainable for 15 days of combat operations
  ashore.
• The MEU is a balanced, air-ground combined arms
  task force of Marine Corps forces under a single
  commander, structured to accomplish a specific
  mission.

GCE Mission

• Locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire
  and maneuver or to repel the enemy's assault by
  fire and close combat.
• To accomplish this, the battalion's organic
  complement of three rifle, a weapons, and a
  headquarters company are reinforced by a variety
  of forces from throughout the 3rd Marine
  Division, including assault amphibian vehicles,
  combat engineers, etc.  Collectively, the
  reinforced battalion is referred to as a
  Battalion Landing Team.
