Unbound Reports
  • Short reports are often prepared without covers
    or binders. If they consist of more than one
    page, the pages are usually fastened together in
    the upper-left corner by a staple or paper clip.
  • Such reports are called unbound reports.

  • The standard margin for unbound reports are
  • First page
  • Side margins 1
  • Top margins 2
  • Bottom margins about 1
  • Page number optional, bottom center if used

Internal Spacing
  • A quadruple space (QS) is left between the report
    title and the first line of the body.
    Multiple-line titles are double-spaced (DS).
  • Paragraphs will be DS.

Page Numbers
  • The first page of the unbound report may or may
    not include page number. The reports keyed in
    Unit 8 will not include a page number on the
    first page.
  • On the second and subsequent pages should be
    right-aligned at the top of the page.

Textual (Within Text) Citations
  • References used to give credit for quoted or
    paraphrased materialtextual citationare keyed
    in parentheses in the report body.
  • Textual citations include the name(s) of the
    author(s), year of publication, and page
    number(s) of the reference material.

  • Quotations of up to three keyed lines are
    enclosed in quotation marks.
  • Long quotations (four lines or more) are left and
    right indented.
  • An ellipsis(. . .) is used to indicated material
    that is omitted from the quotation. An ellipsis
    is three periods, each preceded and followed by a
    space.

  • All references used in a report are listed at the
    end of the heading REFERENCES (BIBLOGRAPHY or
    WORKS CITED)
  • QS between the heading and the first reference.
  • Begin first line of each reference at left margin
    with a hanging indent of 0.5
