Food
  • The Modoc were hunters, fishers, and gatherers.
  • They hunted mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and
    antelope.
  • The men put fish eggs into the traps to lure the
    fish.
  • The men caught many types of fish, including
    salmon and chub.
  • Modoc women gathered wild fruits, plants and
    seeds.
  • Sometimes women pounded food to make meals

  • The Modoc often traded goods with neighboring
    tribes
  • They used beads, wood, and bones to make necklaces

Homes
  • The Modoc lived in two types of homes.
  • During the winter, they lived in earthen homes.
  • Earthen lodges were circular and measured between
    15 and 40 feet
