• This class has students of on or above level
  abilities and talents. I will strive to bring out
  the best in your child academically and socially
  throughout the year.

The 4th Grade Curriculum

• Sarasota County follows the new Florida
  Standards. For 4th grade, these standards are
  Common Core with some additions. Each grade
  level has an instructional focus guide for the
  subjects of English/Language Arts (ELA), Math,
  Social Studies, and Science. We do our best to
  follow these guidelines.

ELA (English/Language Arts)

• Reading 40tests, quizzes, projects, fluency,
  benchmark tests
• Writing 30
• writing in response to reading (RACE),
  dictation, writing assessments
• Language 20
• spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, station
  work
• Performance 10
• speaking, listening, homework and
  classwork completion

Math

• Operations and Algebraic Thinking
• Number and Operations in Base 10
• Number and Operations - Fractions
• Measurement and Data
• Geometry
• Students will be assessed on these standards with
  an assessment that has not been created yet. We
  have no textbook. All materials are either
  teacher researched or purchased. Please be sure
  your child has a quick recall of basic facts. It
  is imperative that these are memorized.

Math Monday

• With this new curriculum, I will make myself
  available Monday afternoons from 330-415 for
  further instruction. This is NOT a babysitting
  service nor is it a time for homework. Your
  child must bring a note to me with your signature
  and contact information no later than the Friday
  before in order to stay late. I walk the students
  down the middle stairs when I dismiss them. If I
  have a previously scheduled meeting or
  appointment and have to cancel, I will note it on
  the class website.

If your child is struggling . . .

• Communication is the key! Listen to your child,
  and talk to me.
• Have your child bring homework to my attention
  first thing in the morning.
• Parent Email me or call Southside to set up a
  meeting.
• Read, read, read, and read some more!
• Become fluent in multiplication and division
  facts. (Your child should already be fluent in
  addition and subtraction.)
