  • Mercury was named for the swift messenger god
    who wore winged sandals.
  • Mercury takes about 88 Earth-days to make one

  • Mercury is bare and rocky with deep craters.

Venus
  • Venus was named for the Roman goddess of love and
    beauty.
  • Venus temperatures can climb to 900 F.
  • Venus is surrounded by thick clouds that reflect
    the light from the Sun.

  • Earth is the only planet that can support life.
  • Earth is 93 million miles (149 kilometers) from
    the Sun.
  • Earth has enough air and sunlight for animals,
    plants and humans.

  • It is called the Red Planet because it shines in
    the reddish color.

  • The temperature on Saturn may drop to

  • The series of rings that surround Saturn give the
    planet its unusual appearance.

  • Uranus rotates in the opposite direction of the
    other four outer planets .
  • Its light green-blue appearance is caused by the
    presence of methane gas clouds.
  • Uranus is very far from the Sun that makes it is
    very, very cold.

  • Winds on the surface of Neptune reach 600 mph.
  • Neptune has four or more rings which are very
    narrow and difficult to see.
  • Neptunes rings are made up of tiny dust
    particles revolving around the planet.

  • The surface of Pluto is probably made up of
    frozen nitrogen.
  • Pluto has one moon Charon ,which is nearly as
    large as the planet itself.
  • Pluto is an icy ball -smaller than Earths moon.
