Igneous Rocks

• Magma (melted rock) cools and crystallizes to
  form solid rock

Sedimentary Rocks

• Parent rocks undergo weathering
• Weathering produces loose material
• Loose material is Eroded (transported)
• Sediment (transported material) is modified by
  sorting and rounding
• Sediment is deposited in layers
• Layers of additional sediment bury sediments
• Ions dissolved in groundwater form crystals that
  glue the sediment grains together (Cementation)

Metamorphic Rocks

• Heat and Pressure during mountain building act on
  existing rock to cause
• Foliation
• Recrystallization
• Formation of new minerals
