Title: When You Read the Scriptures

1
When You Readthe Scriptures
  • By which, when you read, you may understand
my knowledge in the mystery of Christ
  • (Ephesians 34)

2
When You Read the Scriptures
  • Know it is inspired of God
  • 2 Timothy 316-17 Matthew 2818

3
2 Timothy 316-17
  • All Scripture is given by
    inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
    equipped for every good work.

4
Matthew 2818
  • And Jesus came and spoke to
    them, saying, All authority has
been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
  • As scripture is divine, (i.e. the words of
    Christ), it is authoritative.

5
When You Read the Scriptures
  • Know it is inspired of God
  • 2 Timothy 316-17 Matthew 2818
  • Ask, Who is doing the speaking?
  • Genesis 34 John 928-31

6
Genesis 34
  • Then the serpent said to the
woman, You will not surely die.
  • As I know that devil said this, I have no trouble
understanding that it is not a true statement,
    though found in the Bible.

7
John 928-31
  • Then they reviled him the blind
man who had been healed by Jesus
and said, You are His disciple, but we are
Moses disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to
Moses as for this fellow, we do not know where
He is from. 30 The man answered and said to
them, Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you
do not know where He is from yet He has opened
my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear
sinners but if anyone is a worshiper of God and
does His will, He hears him.

When You Read the Scriptures
  • Know it is inspired of God
  • 2 Timothy 316-17 Matthew 2818
  • Ask, Who is doing the speaking?
  • Genesis 34 John 928-31
  • Know to whom the message is spoken
  • 1 Peter 31-6, 7 James 127 1 Corinthians 54-5

9
1 Peter 31-6
  • Wives, likewise, be submissive to your
own husbands, that even if some do not
obey the word, they, without a
word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2
when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied
by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely
outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or
putting on fine apparel-- 4 rather let it be the
hidden person of the heart, with the
incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet
spirit, which is very precious in the sight of
God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the
holy women who trusted in God also adorned
themselves, being submissive to their own
husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him
lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and
are not afraid with any terror.

10
1 Peter 37
  • Husbands, likewise, dwell with
    them with understanding, giving
honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and
as being heirs together of the grace of life,
that your prayers may not be hindered.
  • Also, instructions given to elders, deacons,
evangelists, Jews, Gentiles. Must be understood
within the context of the one spoken to...

11
James 127
  • Pure and undefiled religion
before God and the Father is this
to visit orphans and widows in their
trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the
    world.
  • Institutional error began, in part, by a failure
to recognize this passage is speaking to the
    individual Christian

12
1 Corinthians 54-5
  • In the name of our Lord Jesus
    Christ, when you are gathered
together, along with my spirit, with the power of
our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one to
Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his
spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
  • Discipline is to be carried out by the church
    when you are gathered together

13

  • 2 Thessalonians 29-10 Psalm 11-2

14
2 Thessalonians 29-10
  • The coming of the lawless one
is according to the working of
Satan, with all power, signs, and lying
wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception
among those who perish, because they did not
receive the love of the truth, that they might be
    saved.

15
Psalm 11-2
  • Blessed is the man Who walks
not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits
in the seat of the scornful 2 But his delight is
in the law of the LORD, And in His law he
    meditates day and night.

Topical Studies
  • The truth is the sum total of all God has to say
    on any particular subject.
  • Here is where some Bible study helps can come in
    handy... (Examples Exhaustive Concordance or
    Topical Bible)
  • This is a good exercise in demonstrating the
    harmony of Gods word.
