Title: HYDROGEN

1
HYDROGEN
  • Anna Trott
  • Courtney Rickles

2
Hydrogen Group
  • Hydrogen is in a group all by its self.
  • Its a gas, located in the
  • Alkali Metal column,
  • because it only has one
  • Valence Electron.

3
State At Room Temperature
  • Hydrogen is a gas at room temperature and
    standard pressure.
  • A region of ionized Hydrogen in the Triangulum
    Galaxy.

4
5 Properties of Hydrogen
  • 1. Pure hydrogen is odorless, colorless, and
    tasteless.
  • 2. Hydrogen is non-toxic.
  • 3. Hydrogen has lowest atomic weight of any
substance and therefore has very low density both
as a gas and a liquid.
  • 4. The molecules of hydrogen gas are smaller than
all other gases, and it can diffuse through many
materials considered airtight or impermeable to
    other gases.
  • 5. Even as a liquid, hydrogen is not very dense.

5
5 Uses for Hydrogen
  1. Hydrogen can fuel todays internal combustion
    engine vehicles.
  2. Hydrogen is used extensively today to make
ammonia, methanol, gasoline, heating oil, and
    rocket fuel.
  3. It is also used to make fertilizers, glass, and
    refined metals.
  4. It is used in Balloons.
  5. It is also used to make , vitamins, cosmetics,
    semiconductor circuits, soaps, lubricants,
cleaners, and even margarine and peanut butter.

6
Fun Facts
  • The lifting agent for the ill fated Hindenberg
ballooon was hydrogen rather than the safer
    helium.
  • The sun is basically a giant ball of hydrogen and
    helium gases.
  • Hydrogen is French for water-maker, from the
Greek word hudor meaning "water" and gennen
    meaning to "generate".
