19A Little Macabre Ditty
A sickly season, the merchant said,The town I
left was filled with dead, and everywhere these
queer red fliescrawled upon the corpses
eyes, eating them away.Fair make you sick,
the merchant said,They crawled upon the wine
and bread.Pale priests with oil and
books,bulging eyes and crazy looks,dropping
like the flies.
20A Little Macabre Ditty (2)
I had to laugh, the merchant said,The doctors
purged, and dosed, and bledAnd proved through
solemn disputationThe cause lay in some
constellation.Then they began to die.First
they sneezed, the merchant said,And then they
turned the brightest red,Begged for water, then
fell back. With bulging eyes and face turned
black,they waited for the flies.
21A Little Macabre Ditty (3)
I came away, the merchant said,You cant do
business with the dead.So Ive come here to ply
my trade.Youll find this to be a fine brocade
And then he sneezed.!

23What were thepolitical,economic,and social
effectsof the Black Death??
24Political Consequences Economic Consequences Social Consequences
People lost faith in the monarchy (the king) Peasants revolted in the countryside Revolts also happened in towns Severe (very bad) labor shortages Many feudal estates (manors) went bankrupt Nobles had to start renting or selling land to serfs to get them to stay Many serfs were released from their bonds to the land Economic downturn Goods and services not easy to purchase or trade for - Many serfs were freed from bondage, and were free in society A great many of them came into the towns Many people became more religious (thought that God had sent the plague as a punishment, and that they had to cleanse themselves of their sin) A few people lost their faith in religion Some people lost interest in their regular activities, trying to live for the moment Families and communities were torn apart, and sometimes completely obliterated (destroyed)
