Statistics of student success
  • 52 students have finished at least one module
  • 156 exams successfully passed
  • In average, each student passed 3 exams
  • Average grade of all the students who finished at
    least one module 9,33
  • Best average grade 10,00 (Magdalena ?)
  • Poorest average 7,67 (from 2 exams)

21
Successfully finished exams

  • 4 exams none
  • 3 exams 1 student (average 8,67)
  • 2 exams 12 students (average 9,10)
  • 1 exam 10 students (average 9,81)

22
Current status of the studies
  • 4 generations enrolled
  • accreditation expires
  • it is not clear whether new students could enroll
    in 2010/11 (probably not)
  • interest of students with 3 year studies is very
    high
  • New curricula for students who graduated from
  • 4 year studies according to ECTS ? 30 30 ECST
  • 3 year studies according to ECST ? 90 30 ECST
  • 4 year studies before 2008 ? 60 ? 30 ECST
  • will be prepared by the end of June

23
4 year studies according to ECTS
  • Software engineering division already covers
  • Professional ethics (5th semester)
  • Analysis of software requirements (5th semester)
  • Software architecture and design (6th semester)
  • Software construction (7th semester)
  • Software process management (8th semester)
  • Software quality and testing (8th semester)
  • Directly towards optional modules

24
Optional modules in the 9th semester
  • Research methods
  • System integration
  • Information system development process
  • Software evolution
  • Component-based development
  • Software engineering for critical systems
  • Software engineering for database systems
  • Advanced topics in software engineering
  • These modules exist in the list of master
    modules in Novi Sad.

25
3 year studies according to ECST
  • Both divisions already cover
  • Professional ethics (5th semester, 4 ECTS)
  • Students sometimes elect
  • Software process management (6th semester)
  • Software quality and testing (6th semester)
  • They need at least 90 credits
  • 60 credits will be offered from 4-year studies
    (predominantly theoretical)
  • 30 credits will be offered from Joint M.Sc.
    modules

26
Recommended SE modules according to our B.Sc.
studies
  • Software engineering
  • Calculus 3
  • Probability and statistics
  • Analysis of software requirements
  • Compilers
  • Internet technologies
  • Software design and architecture
  • Information systems
  • Software construction
  • Software project management
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Software quality and testing

27
Core modules
  • Instead of
  • Analysis of software requirements
  • Software design and architecture
  • Software quality and testing
  • students should enroll
  • Requirements engineering
  • Architecture, design and patterns
  • Software testing

28
Again, optional modules in the 9th semester
  • Research methods
  • System integration
  • Information system development process
  • Software evolution
  • Component-based development
  • Software engineering for critical systems
  • Software engineering for database systems
  • Advanced topics in software engineering
  • These modules exist in the list of master
    modules in Novi Sad.

29
4 year studies before 2008
  • The most suitable model 3 semester model
  • But, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and
Information Technology offers 1 year master
    studies in software engineering
  • Compromise? 5 modules with 6 credits each

30
Optional modules in the 9th semester
  • Research methods
  • Requirements engineering
  • Architecture, design and patterns
  • Software testing
  • System integration
  • Information system development process
  • Software evolution
  • Component-based development
  • Software engineering for critical systems
  • Software engineering for database systems
  • Advanced topics in software engineering

31
How to cope with different background
  • All the optional modules from previous slide will
be offered to all the students.
  • The list is big enough to be appropriate for all
the students with 4 year undergraduate studies
  • All the recommended modules from slide 26,
together with all the optional modules from
previous slide will be offered to those students
who have 3 year professional studies
  • This approach is comparable with Novi Sad (?)

32
electronic enrolment system or M.Sc studies
council
  • We already have an electronic enrolment system
    for undergraduates
  • It will be extended for postgraduates
  • Students will express interest for several
    modules
  • Whenever selection is not appropriate it will not
    be accepted
  • For example, student from 3 year studies has
already passed Software quality and testing
during 6th semester, and expresses interest to
    enroll Software testing.
  • The EE system or the council will not accept this
    selection.

33
Joint degree in software engineering
  • The Vice Rector considers joint M.Sc curricula a
    great success ?
  • Earlier, she encouraged me to apply for a joint
    degree
  • Nowadays, she insists on double degree
  • We (Skopje and Novi Sad), also consider only
    double degree

34
Double degree in informatics
  • We have additional M.Sc studies in (Enterprise)
information technologies according to Tempus JEP
    18046-2003
  • This direction is similar to information systems
    in Novi Sad
  • We suggest to think of potential double degree
not only for these two branches, but also to ALL
M.Sc. Degrees at the Institute of Informatics
(they have an accreditation from 2010)
