1. The Rosary is a special way that we honor Mary.
  • When reciting the prayers of the rosary we are
    reminded of the lives of Jesus and Mary.
  • Praying the Rosary
  • - we begin at the cross with the Apostles Creed.
  • then on the next bead we say Our Father
  • say Hail Mary on the next 3 beads.
  • say Glory Be on the single bead.
  • each group of ten beads is called bead of the
    decade.
  • we say an Our Father between each decade, and a
    Glory Be.
  • we conclude the entire rosary with the Holy Queen.

  • While praying the rosary we think of the events
    that took place in the lives of Jesus and Mary.
    These events are called Mysteries of the Rosary.
  • 1. The Joyful Mysteries- remind us of the happy
    times in the lives of Jesus and Mary (Jesus as
    human).

  • Annunciation- Mary was told by the angel Gabriel
    that she was going to be the Mother of Jesus.
  • The Visitation- Mary visits Elizabeth before the
    birth of her baby.
  • The Birth of Jesus
  • The presentation in the Temple- Mary obeyed the
    law of God in presenting Jesus in the Temple.
  • The finding in the Temple- Mary was sad at the
    lost of Jesus which turned to joy when she found
    him surrounded by teachers in the Temple.

2. The Sorrowful Mysteries- remind us of the
events surrounding Jesus sacrifice.
  • The Agony in the Garden- Jesus suffered a bitter
    agony because of our sins.
  • The Scourging at the Pillar- Jesus endured a
    cruel scourging and beating.
  • The Crowning of Thorns- Jesus patiently endured
    the pain from the sharp thorns that were forced
    on his head.

  • The Carrying of The Cross- Jesus willingly
    carried the cross for love of his father and all
    people.
  • The Crucifixion- Jesus endured hours of torture
    on the cross.

3. The Glorious Mysteries- remind us the Glorious
times in lives of Jesus and Mary.
  • The Resurrection- Jesus rose from the dead.
  • The Ascension- Jesus in the presence of Mary and
    the disciples ascended to heaven to sit at the
    right hand of the father.
  • The Descent of the Holy Spirit- (Pentecost) the
    Holy Spirit was sent to Mary and the disciples in
    the form of tongues of fire.

  • The Assumption- Mary was taken into heaven.
  • The Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary- Mary was
    crowned the Queen of Heaven.

4. Mysteries of the Light- (Luminous)- these
mysteries look at the public life of Jesus.
  • Baptism in the Jordan
  • The Wedding at Cana- the first of the signs when
    Jesus turned water into wine.
  • The Proclamation of the Kingdom-the preaching by
    which Jesus proclaims the coming of the kingdom
    of God, calls to conversion and forgiveness of
    sins.

  • The Transfiguration- the glory of God.
  • The Institution of the Eucharist- Last Supper.
