1. Sources of UN funding
  • The United Nations organistion is financed by
    assessed and voluntary contributions from its
    member states.
  • Assessed contributions are assigned by an
    assesment scale , so that the states with the
    largest economies ( like the USA, Japan and
    Germany, ...) are responsible for about 85 of
    the payments and 30 members contribute the lowest
    amount of 0.001 of the expenditure of the UN.
  • In 1997 every member of the UN had to pay less
    than a quarter of a cent of their defense
    expenditure for UN peacekeeping operations.
  • The assessment of the payments is renewed every
    three years.
  • Members are required to pay their amount
    punctually , but some members dont do this, so
    the UN has a lot of debts

    and determines the assessment for each member.
  • Each Organisation decides on its own about how to
    spend the money given to them by the General
    Assembly.

    the amount of their voluntary contribution on
    their own. Here are some examples of the sizes of
