What is diabetes?
  • Diabetes is a disease in which your blood
    glucose, or sugar, levels are too high or above
    normal
  • Most of the food you eat is turned into glucose
  • The pancreas releases insulin to help glucose get
    into the cells to be used for energy- blood sugar
    levels will be controlled

Types of diabetes
  • Type 1 diabetes- 5
  • Type 2 diabetes-95
  • Gestational diabetes

Causes
  • Type 1, the body does not make insulin
  • Type 2, either the body does not make enough
    insulin, or the cells are resistant to insulin
  • Gestational diabetes in pregnancy

  • Frequent urination
  • Excessive thirst
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Extreme hunger
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Feeling very tired most of the time

  • Overweight
  • Abnormal cholesterol and blood fats
