  • The goal of this project is to design and
    quantify basic flight characteristics of a
    DiscRotor wing using Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Deliverables
  • Quantify basic flight characteristics such as
    lift, drag, pitching moments, and downwash
  • Investigate relative pitch angles between the
    disc and the rotors
  • Test the superposition hypothesis that one can
    obtain the total lift of the DiscRotor wing by
    adding together the contribution from the disc
    and the rotors
  • Investigate airfoils that generate lift in either
    forward or backward flight
  • Project Scope
  • The scope is limited to ordinary fixed-wing
    flight, at estimated cruising speeds, of the
    DiscRotor wing by itself (no fuselage)
