Action Process Captives
Conditions Your unit is in a field environment and you have enemy captives that you must field process. You have assistant personnel, first aid supplies, communications equipment, field expedient materials, and DD Form 2745 (EPW Capture Tag), DA Form 4137 (Evidence/Property Custody Document), and DD Form 629 (Receipt for Prisoner or Detained Person).
Standard 1. Each captive is treated humanely and processed IAW the five Ss and T method (search, silence, segregate, safeguard, speed and tag). 2. Each captive is treated humanely IAW the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and U.S. Policy. 3. All captives are quickly evacuated to a Military Police (MP) collecting point and/or holding area and/or Military Intelligence (MI). 4. Documents, maps, overlays, unusual equipment, and other items of potential intelligence value found are secured and turned over to the nearest MP and/or MI personnel IAW local instructions.

necklaces, and equipment that could affect
security

- Definition anything the EPW will be allowed to
keep - Examples protective masks, helmets, ID cards,
pictures of nonmilitary nature

- Part B is retained by capturing unit
- Part C is attached to the EPW property
21Silence
- Do not speak to captives unless giving orders
- Do not let captives talk or signal each other

- Nationality and ideology (if possible)
- EPWs that surrendered willingly

- Protect captives from mental and physical abuse
- Provide firm, humane treatment at all times
- Provide first aid, food and water as necessary

- Protect captives from abuse by other captives or
by local civilians - Report all acts or allegations of inhumane
treatment - Notify your chain-of-command if you have
seriously wounded captives

- Evacuate captives out of the combat zone as
quickly as possible - Escort the captives to the closest MP Collecting
Point or Holding Area - Notify the MP and/or Military Intelligence (MI)
- Obtain a receipt when you transfer custody of the
captives

- NOTE If Moving Captives By Vehicle, There
Should Be At Least One Guard Per Vehicle. If
Moving Captives On Foot, Make Sure There Are
Enough Guards To Secure All Four sides of the
formation.
