What is apartheid?

• Apartheid is an official policy of racial
  segregation.
• It allowed only white South Africans to vote and
  many other laws were passed to restrict nonwhites
  from moving about freely.
• In 1991 apartheid ended.
• In 1994 for the first time all South African
  adults could vote.
