Body Temperature Regulation Jacketfor
Quadriplegic Wearer
Objective
Circulation
Many quadriplegics suffer from poikilothermia, a
disorder that inhibits the bodys ability to
control its temperature. Our system gives these
people the freedom to go outside safely and
comfortably, even in harsh environments.
A diaphragm pump is used to propel deionized
water through medical-grade tubing distributed
through a vest. The water is pumped at 5 gal/hr
flow rate and 5psi.
Thermoelectric
A Peltier Junction is a solid-state
bi-directional heat pump, coupled to a heat
exchanger which pumps heat into or away from the
water in the tubing.
System Flow
Digital Control
Automatic digital system controls water
temperature, circulating it through a custom-made
jacket. System is weather-adaptive, achieving
stable water temperatures from 50-90Fo. Active
diagnostics monitor circuit performance,
ensuring user safety.
