Requirement Review of Two Applications of
Interest Extracted from 03/266r0
3Situational Awareness for Soldiers
- No Effective Means of Indoor Location
- Confusion and lack of Communication and Control
- Sounds are confusing and difficult to localize
- Seconds count...
- Localizers provide ID and location
- Avoid Fratricide
- Positive IFF

4Security Applications
- Enhancing CCTV coverage
- Activity-based video stream selection
- Daytime intruder detection
- Correlate data from active tracking and passive
(IR, weight, radar) sensors - Visitor management
- Enforcing restricted zones and escort policies
- Asset tracking
- Automatic man-down detection
- Demand now Defense contractors, gemstone
processing facilities

5- Both these applications one have element in
common they are covert. - A soldier or a police officer in a hostile
situation does not want their location revealed
even their approximate location! - A security sensor deployment situation may not
want to have the location of sensors revealed
or even that there are sensors deployed. - Some modulation formats inherently lack LPD
properties when subjected to higher order
spectral processing techniques an example is
BPSK used in conjunction with a squaring
non-linearity.

- Range Estimate based on r2 loss

- Estimation of Location

BPSK, a noise like waveform, collapses to an AM
modulated carrier when processed through a
squaring non-linearity.

7Additional PHY Requirement The alternate PHY
must have at least one LPD modulation mode that
takes into consideration protection against
higher order spectral processing techniques.
